Basketball Jones

As I bide my time humbly waiting for the No Surrender tour, I am awestruck by the potentially HUGE basketball news coming out of the PNW right now.

First and foremost, yahoo.com is reporting that the man, the myth, the rookie Greg Oden will be out for the season after knee surgery. Not just any knee surgery, but MICROFRACTURE knee surgery. Yes, that kind. We can only hope the Next Chief can recover, and having his operation done in the Quabbin Blogger's birthplace of Vancouver, WA can't hurt.

Speaking of Washington, let's move the story 160 miles north where the city of Seattle has brought in the big guns in their fight against crooked owner Clay Bennet. Seattle is in the process of acquiring the legal services of former Senator Slade Gorton (R-WA).

Deputy Mayor Tim Ceis put it like this: "We're lawyering up."

Now, I am not a huge fan of Slade because he has been fighting Tribal sovereignty with gusto ever since his egregious battle against the Boldt decision, a court decree that backed up treaty fishing rights in Washington State back in the late 70s, but he is one of the nicest politicians I have ever met and an accomplished advocate. But if he can help Save Our Sonics, I'll give him a free pass for a while. And I'm willing to bet cash that Gorton's involvement will all but assure they don't end up on the Muckleshoot rez. Sorry, Auburn.
